The Advertising Producers Association (APA) was formed by and represents the interests of production companies, post production companies, music, sound design, VFX and editing companies making commercials. The APA’s objective is to create the best possible business environment for their members to operate in. They provide standard contracts, production advice, recommended crew rates, advice on non-standard contracts and copyright, dispute resolution, training, promotion and marketing services for their members and help their members to access new markets in the UK and internationally.
UK Commercials production is world renowned. It is considered to be at the forefront of creativity and creative tech, but it is a tough market to be in and many of the issues Share My Telly job are trying to overcome in the TV and Film Industries are equally pertinent within Commercials.
The APA first teamed up with Share My Telly Job in 2019. Their Chief Executive, Stephen Davies said “ We at The APA are very excited about becoming partners with Share My Telly Job. Firstly, it is just brilliant! – the clarity and practical steps to make it all work. Secondly, the challenges for people in the commercials production business who wish to work in the industry but not full-time are exactly the same.
The advantages of making job-sharing work in commercials would be the same too – People who have invested themselves in the business, for whom job sharing is the best opportunity of fulfilling and rewarding work get to achieve their goals, and we are ensuring that their invaluable expertise is not lost to the industry.
Commercials production companies are small and management stretched, so while their instinct may be sympathetic to job-sharing and other forms of flexibility that will enable them to retain talent, they may be put off making it work by not knowing how to put a job share into place or thinking it will be a headache – so by providing a simple practical process and clear advice, Share My Telly Job addresses those key issues and makes job-sharing doable.”
