Code of Conduct

Our Code of Conduct and associated policies apply to staff, board members, ambassadors, volunteers, interns, freelancers, the training, events, programmes we run, and the industry interaction we have with partners and sister organisations.

Share My Telly Job’s policy is not to discriminate on the grounds of race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, disability, trade union membership or non-membership, sex, sexual orientation, caring responsibility, pregnancy and maternity, gender identity, marital/civil partnership status or age.

We are committed to providing services which embrace diversity and that promote equality of opportunity. Everyone who accesses our services or works for us in a paid or voluntary capacity should be safe, empowered to play a part in promoting their own welfare and that of others and able to live a life free from abuse.

Everyone’s responsibility – Everyone at Share My Telly Job has a responsibility to keep children and adults who need care and support safe from abuse and neglect.

Prevention – We will put sensible measures in place to prevent abuse, including the use of safe recruitment practices, promoting safe working practice and raising awareness of safeguarding.

Protection – We will provide policy, procedures, information and training to enable all Share my Telly Job staff to identify and respond appropriately to concerns about abuse.

Empowerment – We will uphold rights in our safeguarding work

Accountability – We aim to be transparent in our approach and recognise the need for continuous learning and improvement.

All staff and volunteers

Every individual working for Share My Telly Job has a part to play in safeguarding children and adults who need care and support.

Directors

Directors have a responsibility to ensure that safeguarding is included, where appropriate, in the strategic plans, risk assessments, communications and quality assurance processes of their Directorate. In some cases they will be required to make decisions in relation to safeguarding concerns, in consultation with the Head of Safeguarding.

Michelle James is appointed the Head of Safeguarding and is the Designated Person for Safeguarding at Share My Telly Job. She is responsible for developing and quality assuring safeguarding activity across Share My Telly Job.

Partners

Share My Telly Job Partners will make their own arrangements for safeguarding, in partnership with their local Adult and Children’s (where required) Safeguarding Boards.

Failure to comply with the Share My Telly Job safeguarding policy may be managed in a number of ways, depending on the nature and consequences of any incident. In some cases a combination of responses may be required.

  • Local authority co-ordinated safeguarding investigation
  • Police investigation
  • Referral to the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)
  • People & Performance disciplinary process
  • Internal review or co-operation with an external review

What to do if you feel that you are, or have been a victim of bullying and/or harassment, or wish to raise an incident of discrimination:

  • Contact Share My Telly Job via email (messages will be picked up by the job share Project Managers) outlining the situation and/or speak to the event manager or course tutor on site. We may involve the Share My Telly Job founders / board as necessary.
  • If you need to share your concern with someone outside of the ‘regular’ reporting line. Please contact the Film and Television Charity’s free support line on 0800 054 0000.
  • You may also wish to consult with a guild, professional association, ACAS and a union such as BECTU.

What to do if there is an emergency, safeguarding issue or disclosure: 

  • Inform the event manager or course tutor on site.
  • If you are worried about an adult in immediate danger contact the Police or Accident and Emergency on 999.
  • If you are worried about a child in immediate danger contact the NSPCC for advice on their free helpline 0808 800 5000, the Police and/or Accident and Emergency on 999.
  • Stay calm and if applicable reassure the person they have done the right thing by talking to you, never promise confidentiality where abuse may have occurred. Make a factual record of the event or conversation and do not confront the abuser if there is one.
